Preparation For a Long Journey

What if a man going to San Francisco should make preparations for his journey from Brooklyn to Hoboken, and no further. Would you not call him a fool? But here is a man about starting on an everlasting journey, and yet he postpones his preparation until the very last moment of time.

The distance from here to the grave is smaller when compared with eternity, than the distance from here to Hoboken is small compared with the thousands of miles between here and San Francisco. Here is a man who thinks only of the three or four yards of human life, and regards not the millions of furlongs stretching out into the infinite.
