Sponsored by the National Council of Churches, this popular version was published in 1952. Like many earlier versions in English, it was a revision of the King James Version. It met with a lot of resistance from older readers who preferred to stick with the King James. The “nonsexist” revision, the New Revised Standard Version, was published in 1989.
