The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, better known as the Mormons, accepts the Bible as sacred but also accepts several later books: the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine and Covenants, and the Pearl of Great Price.
Joseph Smith, the church’s founder, claimed he found the Book of Mormon in 1822 and translated it into English. Many readers see an obvious resemblance between the language of the book and the language of the King James Version of the Bible, the version Smith would have been familiar with.
The Bible and the Book of Mormon disagree on certain key beliefs, but the Mormons give precedence to their book.
