A certain slave girl was possessed by a demon who gave her power to predict the future. This fortune-telling ability made a lot of money for her owners.
The apostle Paul drove the demon out of the girl, and her owners were so peeved that they had Paul publicly whipped and thrown into jail (Acts 16:16–24).
