The apostle Paul stated in Galatians 6:17, “I bear in my body the marks of the Lord Jesus.” He was probably referring to scars from the various punishments he endured for his faith.
But some Christians, beginning in the Middle Ages, have exhibited marks or wounds on their hands or feet like those of the crucified Jesus. The famous Francis of Assisi supposedly exhibited stigmata.
