The book of Daniel has always been a favorite for reading to children, and for artists, probably because it has picturesque stories like the fiery furnace, Nebuchadnezzar’s statue, and Daniel in the lions’ den.
Daniel 6 tells how the Persian ruler Darius decreed that no one should pray to any god or man except to Darius himself.
Some of Daniel’s enemies hoped that the faithful Daniel, who prayed to no one except the true God, would be in trouble. They got their wish, and Darius (who liked Daniel), reluctantly ordered him thrown into a den of lions.
The next morning Daniel was found miraculously preserved, not even scratched. The enemies who plotted against Daniel were thrown into the den and devoured.
