Dancing is universal and most religions practice some kind of “ritual dance.” The Old Testament mentions dancing a few times, notably in King David’s joyous dancing when the ark of the covenant was brought into Jerusalem (2 Sam. 6:14). Psalms 149 and 150 mention godly dancing: “Let them praise His name with the dance.”
Dancing by Christians is not mentioned in the New Testament. We know that early Christians practiced a kind of ritual dancing, but by A.D. 300 some church leaders objected that dancing had suggestions of sensuality and lewdness, so it fell out of use in the church. Stricter Christians have often objected to Christians dancing anywhere.
