Joshua 1:6-9
Satan will spare no expense and he will waste no time in 2024 coming to assault the people of God Jesus said about him the thief comes only to steal and kill and to destroy he wants to Rob us of our peace he wants to threaten our sense of security.
He wants to intimidate us into this sense of retreat and I’m here to call upon you as God’s people to not give in for one moment to his tactics we know how he works we’ve been watching him for a long time and we want to be ready because in spite of what all of the predictions are for this year and even the ones that you’ve heard me make going to be a crazy one we can still face this year with confidence because we know who’s really in charge.
So I want to talk to you today about a time for confidence and I want you to open to the Old Testament book of Joshua if you will the first chapter of Joshua and we’re going to read verses 6-9 as we think about this.
Being a time for confidence and I’m saying this assuming that I’m speaking mostly to those who are believers and if you’re not a follower of Jesus Christ this message is for you as well because in this message there are the keys to understanding how you could become a child of God and face your future with confidence too and In this passage.
God is commissioning Joshua to be the leader of the Jewish people to take them into the land of promise which he had sworn to their ancestors which he was bound to give to them had they gone in when God wanted them to.
I believe they could have gone in with ease but because they voted down the will of God out of fear they were sentenced to wandering in the wilderness and now the conquest is going to be much more difficult but Joshua was the right man for the job and God said to his servant Joshua in verse 6 of Joshua 1:
“Be strong and of good courage for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them only be strong and very courageous that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses my servant commanded you do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left that you may Prosper wherever you go
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth but you shall meditate in it day and night that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it for then you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success have I not commanded you be strong and of good courage do not be afraid nor be dismayed for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go this
Was a huge challenge a defining moment for Joshua the new leader of the Israelites and can you imagine what it must have been like to have to fill in for the great leader Larger than Life Moses who has now passed away you may not can imagine it but I sure can but this was a time for him to step up and lead and this is what God assured
Him of that God was with him and that God had ordained that he lead the people into the conquest of Canaan so that they could raise the flag of the Jewish people over that land and enjoy God’s covenant blessings which had been assured to them so what i.
Want to do this morning is talk about the things that Joshua had that we see from these few verses that we’ve read the first thing we see that he had that you and I also have is an assignment from God.
