True Contentment

Charles Stanley

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

God does not want you to live a life that feels empty and unrewarding.

God does not want you to live a life that feels empty and unrewarding.

True Contentment | Devotional

Scripture Reading: John 4:3–18
key Verses: John 4:13–14

Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.

But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

However, there is an even starker reality: even after we become believers, the things of the world cannot bring true, lasting contentment.

In talking to the woman at the well, Jesus spoke of life-giving water. The water of the world can never satisfy the God-shaped void that is in the heart of each lost person.

No matter how much money we have, we are never satisfied apart from Jesus Christ.

He waters your heart with His unfailing hope. He fills you with His blessed presence so that you do not fear as the world fears.

He comforts you in times of sorrow and holds you close when disappointment and rejection strike. He is your ever-present Savior and Lord.

God does not want you to live a life that feels empty and unrewarding.

When you feel either of these, you may end up taking great risks with the hopes that something along the way will fill the void inside.

The woman at the well had tried in vain to find true happiness. Yet nothing worked before she met the Savior.

Today, Jesus stands waiting to touch your life with fresh hope. Drink of Him, and be blessed by His unconditional love for you.

Dear Lord, thank You for Your unfailing hope that waters my heart. Thank You for Your presence that alleviates my fears. Thank You for Your comfort in times of sorrow.

Father, as we honor the birth of your Son, let us think on mercy, healing, and reconciliation. Amen.

Healing Time

J. Stephen Lang
1868: On this date a political leader who grew up poor, had no formal education and was illiterate until his wife taught him to read and write, issued Proclamation 179 “granting full pardon and amnesty for the offense of treason against the United States during the late Civil War.”
Christmas means you have an eternal home waiting for you. That should make more than the angels sing!

A Personal Promise

Charles Stanley
Jesus came to earth with the view of offering you salvation. He wanted you to have a restored relationship with the Father, a relationship that was so close, so intimate, that you would have your special place in the Father’s house (John 14:1–4).
The only people in Israel who did recognize Christ at His birth were humble, unremarkable people.

The Unexpected Savior

John MacArthur
Scripture records that when John the Baptist began his ministry, “The people were in expectation, and all reasoned in their hearts about John, whether he was the Christ or not” (Luke 3:15).
In the incarnation, God spanned the vast chasm of fear that had distanced him from his human creation

Reflections on the Incarnation and Freedom of God

Philip Yancey
Think of the condescension involved: the incarnation, which sliced history into two parts had more animal than human witnesses. Think, too, of the risk. In the incarnation, God spanned the vast chasm of fear that had distanced him from his human creation.
Remember that His presence can be experienced. His promise is as true as ever.

The Blessing of the Presence of Jesus

Charles Spurgeon
He is as certainly with us now as He was with the disciples at the lake when they saw coals of fire, fish on the coals, and bread (John 21:9). Not physically, but still in real truth, Jesus is with us!
