"dwarf palm tree." Desert crossed by the Israelites heading to Canaan. Zin was near the southern boundary of this country (Num. 13:21).
Kadesh-barnea was in this wilderness (Num. 20:1; 27:14; 33:36; Deut. 32:51). It formed the boundary of Edom to the west and Judah to the southeast (Josh. 15:1-3).
It was part of the desert of Paran, which touched near Kadesh-barnea. It should not be confused between the desert of Zin and that of Sin. The Hebrew terms are very different.
