(a) City at the extreme limit of Solomon’s states, near the Euphrates (1 Kings 4:24). It is usually identified with Thapsacus, on the right bank of the Euphrates. It was through this city that Cyrus, Darius Codomanus and Alexander the Great crossed the Euphrates. Its location is 35º 54′ N, 38º 48′ E.

(b) City in which Manahem made a slaughter (2 Kings 15:16). Conder identifies it with the ruins of the town of Tafsach, about 10 km southwest of Shechem. Many exegetes adopt the gr. form. of Luciano, identifying the town with Tapúa.
