SELEUCIA
Maritime city of Syria (1 Mac. 11:8), 8 km north of the mouth of the Orontes. Seleucus Nicator, founder of the Syrian monarchy, built this city on the site of an ancient city.
It was the port of Antioch, which was 25 km upriver from the Orontes. There Paul and Barnabas embarked to go to Cyprus (Acts 13:4).
