The wife in Song of Solomon calls herself a “rose of Sharon” (Song 2:1); When God brings the Jews back into blessing, “the wasteland will rejoice and blossom like a rose” (Isa. 35:1). Roses grow in Palestine, but there is general agreement that the Hebrew term. It does not refer to the rose, but implies a bulbous plant, and could be the narcissus or the lily.
