RING

RING

The rings had various functions and uses, such as jewelry and seals (see). Like jewelry, they were a sign of high position.

There were nose rings, which women wore (Gen. 24:47). The signet ring worn on the finger, or sometimes hung on a string on the chest, was considered an object of great value (Gen. 38:18; Song 8:6).

Other rings denoted high social rank and high dignity and were therefore considered a luxury item. In some cases, as they appeared in the loot, they were reserved for God (Gen. 41:42; Num. 31:50; Is. 3:21; Est. 3:10, 12).
