RIMON (divinity)
(ac.: «fulminator»). Syrian deity, who had a sanctuary in Damascus. Naaman and his king had the custom of prostrating themselves in his temple (2 Kings 5:18).
In Assyria, where he was called Rimon, or Raman, he was among the twelve chief gods, and was the one over storms, rain, lightning, and thunder.
Under the guise of a crop destroyer, he aroused terror; As the god of fertility, he received worship. He was the same as Hadad, supreme god of the Syrians, called Hadad-rimmon. (
