PI-BESETH
(Egyptian “house of the goddess Bast”)
Egyptian city (Ez. 30:17). His name gr. it was Bubastos, Bubastis (Herodotus 59:137).
This town, which is currently called Tell Basta, is located in the Nile Delta on the west bank of the Pelusiac branch of the Nile about 72 km west-southwest of the biblical Zoan.
Among the ruins of Pibeset are the vestiges of what was once a superb red granite temple dedicated to Bast, the cat-headed goddess.
