PERGE
A city that the Romans elevated to the rank of capital of Pamphylia, it was located on the right bank of the Cestro River, and 12 km from its mouth.
Paul, accompanied by Barnabas, announced the Gospel there during his first missionary journey, both on the way there and on the way back (Acts 13:13, 14; 14:25).
Near Perga was a famous temple, dedicated to the Asiatic Artemis. The goddess was called “queen of Perge”; cf. DIANA.
