NABOTH

NABOTH

“fruits” or “eminence.”
An Israelite from Jezreel who refused to sell his ancestors’ vineyard to Ahab, the idolatrous king of Israel (Lev. 25:23, 24), and was, for that reason, murdered on a false charge of blasphemy, which was engineered by Jezebel, the queen.

Ahab took the coveted vineyard, perhaps because it had been legally confiscated by the government, blasphemy being considered treason, or perhaps because the heirs, because his sons had perished with him, refrained from asserting their rights, out of fear. to the unscrupulous schemes of Jezebel.

Elijah, however, had the courage to threaten the king and queen with the vengeance of “One higher than them” (1 Kings 21:2; 2 Kings 9:24-26, 36; Eccl. 5:8 ).
