MORNING STAR, LUCIFER

MORNING STAR, LUCIFER

(gr. “he who carries or provides the light”).
The planet Venus. After the Sun and the Moon, Venus is the brightest star.

Depending on its position east or west of the Sun, this planet is visible in the morning or afternoon. Approximately every 19 months he returns to the same position. As a morning star it announces the coming of the day.

The prophet compares the splendor of the king of Babylon with that of this resplendent star, called “son of the morning” (Isa. 14:12).

Since the 3rd century, the name Lucifer has been given to Satan, the rebellious angel expelled from heaven. The poets propagated this appellation, based on the assumption that Lc. 10:18 explains Isa. 14:12.
