MILK
Food of utmost importance in the East. Today it continues to be consumed, as in the past:
cow’s and sheep’s milk (Deut. 32:14), goat’s milk (Prov. 27:27),
of camel (Gen. 32:15).
The latter is excellent and nutritious, although it lacks sugar. The sour or natural milk was taken, and it was also transformed into cheese (Deut. 32:14; Judges 5:25; 2 Sam. 17:29). It was kept in wineskins and served in bowls (Judg. 4:19; 5:25).
In the NT milk is used almost exclusively as an image of the Word of God in its basic teachings for recent Christians, while it uses “meal” for those truths it teaches to the more mature (1 Cor. 3: 2; Heb. 5:12, 13; 1 Pet. 2:2).
