MEDEBA
Ancient Moabite city, mentioned along with Heshbon and Dibon (Num. 21:30). Assigned to the tribe of Reuben (Josh. 13:9, 16).
The Ammonites, waging war against Israel under David, hired an army of Syrians who marched against Medeba (1 Chron. 19:7).
This city became Moab (“Stone of Moab” 30; Is. 15:2). Its ruins are called “Mãdabã”, and are located 26 km east-southeast of the mouth of the Jordan into the Dead Sea and about 10 km south of Heshbon, on an eminence from which the city extended. towards the east, to the fertile plain.
Traces of walls, churches and some buildings dating back to the Christian era have been found. Outside the walls are the ruins of a large tank that measured just over 100 m. by 95, and with a depth of 3.5.
