MATTANIAH

“gift of Jehovah.”
(a) Singer, son of Heman, in the time of David (1 Chr. 25:4, 16).

(b) Levite son of Asaph and founder of a branch of this family (2 Chr. 20:14). He is probably the same individual named in 1 Chron. 9:15; Neh. 13:13; representative of the house (Neh. 12:8; cf. Ezra 2:41; Neh. 11:17, 22; 12:25).

(c) A Levite descendant of Asaph, he helped Hezekiah in his religious reform (2 Chr. 29:13).

(d) Son of King Josiah. Nebuchadnezzar established him on the throne and changed his name to Zedekiah (2 Kings 24:17; see ZEDECIAH).
(e-h) Four Israelites whom Ezra persuaded to send away their foreign wives (Ezra 10:26, 27, 30, 37).
