LYCAONIA

LYCAONIA

Elevated, rugged district in the interior of Asia Minor. Its limits are: Galatia to the north, Cilicia and Isauria to the south; to the east Cappadocia; to the west Phrygia and Isauria.

It was rich in pastures, so it had livestock wealth. Their language, probably a mixture of Greek and Syriac, was still spoken when Paul visited, preaching in three cities of Lycaonia: Iconium, Derbe and Lystra (Acts 13:51-14:23, esp. v. 11 and 16 :1-2).
