LUNATIC
Demented that has moments of lucidity. (The Greek term comes from “Selênê”, moon; the Spanish comes from the Latin “moon”.)
It was believed that the light and phases of the moon influenced this disease. Lunatics are distinguished from those possessed by demons (Mt. 4:24), in that their disorder has different causes, while demonic possession can also cause dementia (Mt. 17:15; cf. Mr. 9:17).
These two passages describe a state similar to the symptoms of epilepsy: acute periodic seizures, loss of consciousness, convulsions.
