LEHI
“Jaw”.
Height of the country of Judah (Judges 15:9, 11, 13). The Philistines occupied it to seize Samson. Lehi’s name comes from the steep, jagged cliffs, which resemble a jawbone, or from Samson’s feat with the donkey’s jawbone.
In any case, the place where Samson defeated the Philistines, and where he cast the jawbone that had served as his weapon, was called Ramat-lehi, “hill of the jawbone” (Judg. 15:17).
