KENATH
“Possession”.
City on the western slope of Djebel Hauran, in the far northeast of Israel. It was the easternmost city of the Decapolis. Identified with Kanawat, 26 km from Bostra (Bosra). Noba, no doubt of the tribe of Manasseh, took it and gave it his own name (Num. 32:42), which, however, did not entirely replace the old one. He fell again into the power of the pagans (1 Chron. 2:23).
The Arabs defeated Herod the Great there (Wars 1:19, 2).
