City of the plain of Judah (Josh. 15:44; 1 Chron. 4:19). Attacked by the Philistines; Released by David, however, he did not remain there for fear of being treacherously handed over to Saul (1 Sam. 23:1-13).

Inhabited after the captivity (Neh. 3:17, 18).
It is generally identified with Khirbet Kila, 13 km northwest of Hebron.
