JESSE
“Jehovah is.”
Son of Obed, a Bethlehemite, father of King David. Little is recorded about him. When David was persecuted by King Saul, Jesse was protected, along with his wife, by the king of Moab, in whose land they found refuge (1 Sam. 22: 1-4).
The Messiah, son of David, is also called “a rod from the stump of Jesse” and “the root of Jesse” (Is. 11:1, 10).
