JEBUS

JEBUS

The original name of Jerusalem under the power of the Jebusites (Josh. 15:63; Judges 19:10; 1 Chron. 11:4).

Compared to Jerusalem in Solomon’s time, Jebus’ territory was very small. However, it constituted a strong obstacle to the free movement of the Israelites between Judah and the north of the country, as it was strategically located on the communication route between the north and south of Palestine.

His citadel became the fortress of Zion (2 Sam. 5:7; 1 Chron. 11:5).
