JAREB
“Disputer.”
King of Assyria, his name has not been identified (Hos. 5:13; 10:6). It is believed that Jareb is not a proper name, but rather a qualifier, a title of the king of Assyria.
There are commentators who believe that it is derived from the Assyrian “sharru rabu”, “great king”. This could be an allusion to Tiglath-pileser (cf. 2 Kings 18:19).
