JAHAZ

JAHAZ

“Open space”.
Place on the plain of Moab (Jer. 48:21) where the Israelites defeated Sihon, king of the Amorites (Num. 21:23; Deut. 2:32; Judges 11:20).

Jahaza was assigned to the tribe of Reuben (Josh. 13:18) and set aside as a Levitical city for descendants of Merari (Josh. 21:36; 1 Chron. 6:78).

Mesha, king of Moab, took it from the Israelites; In the time of Isaiah and Jeremiah it was Moab who owned this place (Is. 15:4; Jer. 48:21, 34).
