Meaning of IMPIETY

The opposite of piety, of the reverence due to God. It is a rebellious attitude, which opposes the subjection and knowledge of God in a conscious way, against what is owed to Him as Creator, Sustainer and Savior.

Ungodliness arises from pride (Ps. 75:4; Prov. 21:4). The wicked manifest: dishonesty (Ps. 37:21); his cruelty (Prov. 12:10); falsehood (Ex. 23:1); oppressors (Jb. 24:6); persecutors of the godly (Ps. 37:12, 14); stubborn (Prov. 21:29); However, its end is dark, without hope (Prov. 10:28; 13:9); their retribution will be the consuming wrath of God (Ps. 109; 119:119; 145:20; Pr. 2:22; Zeph. 1:3; Jude 15).

However, it is for the wicked that Jesus came to die (Rom. 5:6); On the basis of his sacrifice, God is willing to justify the wicked who believe in Jesus (Rom. 4:5); Already in the OT there are calls for the repentance of the wicked (Is. 55:7; Ez. 3:18; 18:21); the Lord declares that he does not desire the death of the wicked, but rather their conversion (Ez. 18:23), although He will have to judge those who have not wanted to return to Him (2 Pet. 3: 7).

Believers are exhorted to renounce ungodliness and worldly desires, and to live heartily for Him who has redeemed them and given them the blessed hope that they will be taken by Him to their father's home (Tit. 2:11-15, cf. Jn 14:13, 1 Thes. 4:13-18).

Christians are saved by faith, not by obeying the law, but the law shows us how to please, love, and resemble the one who saved us by grace.

True Worship that Pleases the Lord

Timothy Keller
A little boy left his toys out and went in to practice the piano, using hymns for his lesson. When his mother called him to pick up his toys, he said, “I ca n’t eat; “I’m singing praise to Jesus.” His mother responded: “There's no use singing God's praises when you're being disobedient.”
Psalm 19 tells us that, unless you repress it, you can still hear the stars singing about their maker.

From Heavenly Greatness to Inexhaustible Love

Timothy Keller
The number of stars is still uncountable by human science, yet God knows them by name (verse 4; cf. Isaiah 40:26). Job speaks of the creation, when “the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy” (Job 38:7).
This Christmas season, let’s remember to thank Him for His most precious gift to us: Himself.

The Gift of Himself

David Jeremiah
Long ago, there ruled a wise and good king in Persia who loved his people and often dressed in the clothes of a working man or a beggar so he could visit the poor and learn about their hardships.
Father, as we honor the birth of your Son, let us think on mercy, healing, and reconciliation. Amen.

Healing Time

J. Stephen Lang
1868: On this date a political leader who grew up poor, had no formal education and was illiterate until his wife taught him to read and write, issued Proclamation 179 “granting full pardon and amnesty for the offense of treason against the United States during the late Civil War.”
Christmas means you have an eternal home waiting for you. That should make more than the angels sing!

A Personal Promise

Charles Stanley
Jesus came to earth with the view of offering you salvation. He wanted you to have a restored relationship with the Father, a relationship that was so close, so intimate, that you would have your special place in the Father’s house (John 14:1–4).
