GESEM

GESEM

“corporeity”.
An Arab who, along with Sanballat and Tobiah, attempted to prevent the rebuilding of Jerusalem (Neh. 2:19; 6:1, 2).

In Neh. 6:6 he is given the name Gasmu, possibly the Assyrian form.
It has been speculated that he was the chief of an Arab tribe established in Palestine in the time of Sargon, when the north was repopulated with foreign people, or perhaps established in the lands of Judah at the time of the Babylonian exile.
