EPICUREANS
A school of philosophers who derived their name from Epicurus, who had had his “garden” in Athens.
His theory was that the goal of human life should be to experience pleasurable emotions, and that the epitome of happiness was peaceful tranquility of mind.
His key was experience, not truth. Paul attempted to turn the minds of the Athenians from their invented philosophies, and from their idols made with hands, to the one true God (Acts 17:18).
