DOCTOR OF THE LAW

DOCTOR OF THE LAW

Scholar and official interpreter of the Mosaic law (Luke 2:46).
Nicodemus was probably one of them, because the Lord called him “teacher of Israel.”

The Lord affirmed that the doctors of the Law placed heavy burdens on others, without touching them with a finger (Lk. 11:46).

He denounced that in their teachings they took away the key of knowledge, neither entering nor allowing others to enter (Lk. 11:52).

This is a solemn description applicable to all those who at present obscure the grace of God by twisting his word. Cp. Mt. 22:35; Lc. 7:30; 10:25; 11:45-52; 14:3; Tit. 3:13.
