CUS
(Hebrew, “black”).
(a) Son of Ham and his descendants. They formed towns from Arabia and the African coast (Gen. 10:6-8).
(b) The country inhabited by the Cushites; It generally designates present-day Ethiopia or Abyssinia (Ps. 68:31; Is. 18:1), although there appears to have been a Cush or Ethiopia in Mesopotamia (Gen. 2:13).
Herodotus says that there were Ethiopians in the army.
