CHEEK

CHEEK

In the Sermon on the Mount the Lord pronounced the saying of “turning the other cheek” to anyone who hurts the disciple in one of them (Mt. 5:39).

With this he expressed the principle of grace that must govern the Christian’s walk. Christ remained silent in the midst of suffering and affront (cf. Is. 53:7; 1 Pet. 2:19-24).

The Christian must keep in mind, if he wants to walk as a faithful disciple, that “a servant is not greater than his master” (John 15:20).

Thus, the Christian is called to patience and to always act in grace and self-denial toward others, always seeking to overcome evil with good (Rom. 12:21, etc.).

We can truly look forward to the day of our vindication on that day when the Lord Himself will be publicly vindicated (cf. Phil. 2:5-11).
