CHAPTERS
Very soon the Holy Scripture was divided into parts according to meaning for reading in worship.
Most biblical manuscripts in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin have divisions into sections.
The present division into chapters surely comes from Stephen Langton (1206; then teacher in Paris; later archbishop of Canterbury).
The division of the New Testament into verses is the work of the printer Roberto Estienne (Stephanus), who made it in 1550 on a trip from Paris to Lyon.
It is not always good, and bears the traces of its origin: being made during a trip; but it was introduced quickly and therefore, for practical reasons, it is maintained.
