CARPENTER
The Hebrews did not distinguish between professions related to carpentry such as lumberjacks, cabinetmakers, and carpenters.
They probably learned the trade in captivity in Egypt, despite the fact that during the reign of David and Solomon the cabinet-making professionals were foreigners, especially Phoenicians who collaborated in the construction of the Temple.
The carpenters built the ark of the covenant, the Tabernacle, and various parts of the Temple under the direction of Bezaleel (Ex. 25:10; 31:1-11; 35:10-18; 36:1; 38:1; 2 Sam. 5:11; 1 Chron. 14:1; 2 Chron. 2:14).
Joseph, the husband of Mary, the mother of Jesus, was “teknon”, that is, a carpenter, and Christ also had this trade (Mt. 13:55; Mark 6:3).
