CANDLESTICK
One of the sacred objects, made of gold, of the Tabernacle (Ex. 25:31-37).
In the first temple, Solomon’s, there were ten lampstands of pure gold (1 Kings 7:49).
It consisted of seven arms carved with figures of cups, apples and flowers.
In the second temple there was only one, which after the capture and destruction of Jerusalem (70 AD) was taken as a trophy to Rome. A sculpted reproduction can still be seen on the Arch of Titus.
In Revelation the testimony of God on earth is symbolized by lampstands (Rev. 1:12 ff., 20; 2:1, 5; 11:4).
