BELLS
(a) (Heb. “paamon”, from “to strike”). (Ex. 28:33, 34; 39:25, 26).
“A bell and a pomegranate” were hanging from Aaron’s tunic.
The testimony and the fruit should mark all his steps, just as they should accompany the Christian’s walk through his union with Christ.
(b) (Heb. “metsilloth”), “bells,” from their ringing (Zech. 14:20), although an alternative translation is “bridle.”
It is assumed that these are metal plates suspended from the horses’ heads, on which inscriptions can be engraved, and which make a clanging sound.
In the restoration and blessing of Israel, “Holiness to Jehovah” will be engraved on these plates.
