ANCHOR
The anchors used by the ancients somewhat resembled modern ones in shape, as can be seen on some coins.
When Paul was heading to Rome, he needed four anchors to secure the ship (Acts 27:29, 30, 40).
The anchor is used metaphorically of the hope placed before the Christian; With this anchor for the soul, penetrating even within the veil, it is secured and firm.
It is a great exhortation for Christians in Hebrews to have our gaze directed toward heaven; the anchor of our hope is there; no matter what storms we may face; the consummation of our hope, if it has been placed in Christ, is certain (Heb. 6:19).
