AMON (2)

(Heb. = worker).
Governor of Samaria in the time of Ahab (1 Kings 22:26; 2 Chron. 18:25).
Son and successor of Manasseh, king of Judah. He reigned only two years, between 642 and 640 BC.

He did evil before the Lord, and served the idols that his father had set up. His servants conspired against him, killing him in his own house (2 Kings 21:18-25; 1 Chron. 3:14; 2 Chron. 33:20-25; Jer. 1:2; 25:3 ; Zeph. 1:1; Mt. 1:10).

A descendant of Solomon’s servants, Hamado Ami in Ezra. 2:57 (Neh. 7:59).
