ALGAE
In the anguish of his permanence at the bottom of the sea, the prophet Jonah prays to God saying: “The waters surrounded me up to my neck, the deep surrounded me, and a seaweed has tied itself around my head” (Jon. 2:6 ).
This is the same word as the one that designates the Red Sea in the Exodus (Ex. 10:19), although curiously none of the ancient versions of Scripture translate these passages as algae.
Certainly algae grow in the “red sea”, which is precisely what gives them their characteristic coloration.
