Translated in the LXX “epi alaimot”, and “in nablis arcana cantabant” in the Vulgate (1 Chr. 15:20); “uper ton rufion”, “pro arcanis” (Ps. 46, title).
The meaning of this word is unknown, and this ignorance is confirmed by the failed efforts to translate it in the different versions. It is supposed to be derived from “virgin”, and could therefore mean soprano voices.
