“foolish brother.” Gilonita, grandfather of Bathsheba, and a very wise advisor to King David. He accepted his word as the word of God.

He joined Absalom’s rebellion, and advised him to cohabit in public with David’s concubines, and to immediately launch an attack against the king.

When his last advice was not followed, but that of Hushai, who was acting on David’s behalf, he saw the disaster approaching, returned home, put his affairs in order, and hanged himself (2 Samuel 15:12). -34; 16:15-23; 17:1-23; 23:34). He is a type of Judas Iscariot (cp. Ps. 61:9; 55:12).
