ADRIA

The Adriatic Sea, where Paul was carried to and fro by a storm (Acts 27:27). The term “Adriatic” is currently limited to the sea that extends between Italy, Dalmatia and Albania; It previously had a broader connotation, denoting the part of the Mediterranean bounded by Sicily, Italy, Greece and Africa.

It is important to note this, since Malta (Melita), where Paul and his companions were shipwrecked, is not located within the current Adriatic, although it is within what received this name in the past. Those who have objected here to the biblical account have done so without paying attention to this fact.
