ADONIJAH

“Jehovah is Lord.”
(a) Fourth son of David, born in Hebron, and candidate to the throne after his brothers Amnon and Absalom died, in competition with Solomon.

Joab and Abiathar took his side; On Solomon’s side were Bathsheba, his mother, and Nathan the prophet. David decided on Solomon and Adonijah submitted.

Later, for having asked Abishag the Shunammite, one of the women of David’s harem, in marriage, Solomon, taking this as a new claim to the throne, had him killed along with Joab (2 Kings 1-2).

(b) One of the Levites sent by King Jehoshaphat to teach the law to the people (2 Chron. 17:8).
(c) One of the leaders of the people, in the time of Nehemiah (Neh. 10:16).
