ABEL-SITIM

ABEL-SITIM

“valley of acacias” in the plain of Moab, near Mount Peor, east of the Jordan River. It was the site of one of the camps of the Israelites on the desert pilgrimage before the death of Moses (Num. 33:49).

The place is also called Shittim = “acacia” (Josh. 2:1), and there the people were seduced into the impurity of the idolatry of Baal-peor by the women of Moab and Midian and perished in great numbers (Number . 25).
