ABEDNEGO
It is the Babylonian name of Azariah, Daniel’s companion in Babylon (Dan. 1:7). Along with Meshach and Shadrach, he was appointed as a slave to serve King Nebuchadnezzar (Dan. 2:49).
When the three young Israelite believers refused to worship the golden statue that the king had ordered erected, he sentenced them to die in a fiery furnace (Dan. 3:13-22).
God intervened to save them (Dan. 3:24-26), and their official positions were restored to them (Deut. 3:30). The faith of these three young people has served as an example throughout the ages for both the Jews in the Old Testament and for Christians, for knowing how to resist those who invite them to worship idols or false gods, or to give more respect to men than to others. God (Heb. 11:33-34).
